My grandfather is a very independent man who refuses to move in with any family members, he wants to stay in the house he’s lived in for the last 30 years. He is somewhat forgetful regarding his health issues and since I take turns with my siblings and cousins on who will visit him and take him to run his errands and to doctors appointments, it’s hard for all of the family to keep up on his latest health issues.
While researching on the web, I came across the MedIDCard. It keeps all personal health records on a credit card size USB memory card. We are able to store and edit this medication, allergies, insurance information, x-rays, doctors notes, and so on. Our system is whoever takes him to the doctor’s documents the latest news on this card that our grandpa keeps in his wallet, and whoever takes him to the doctors next checks the card to see what questions they should be asking the doctor. This makes us feel really safe because our grandpa would never ask the doctor questions, and isn’t good about following the doctors guidelines.
We’re able to keep him healthy and independent without relying on him to remember everything and by making sure he is taking the right vitamins, prescriptions, and eating and exercising as directed by his doctor.
Not only does this card help us manage his health, but it’s always on him in case of a life-threatening emergency. If he were to hurt himself and none of the family were close by, the paramedics or hospital has easy access to his health records which will provide him prompt medical attention.
I love this card and recommend it to all my family and friends, no matter what age. It’s a life saver!
